Upon watching it with that new music, it became apparent that the dub was meant to be heard with that soundtrack and not the original Japanese one. However, if you listen to the VHS version of the dub, you'll find Manga actually replaced the original synthty, shrill soundtrack by Kazz Toyama with a new hard rock/industrial soundtrack by Rory MacFarlane. A lot of people give that dub flak for being 'bad', because of its foul mouthed rewritten script and faux-American accents Manga UK had its London actors use in their dubs back in the 90s. I think a good example of this happening in another anime is the dub of Cyber City Oedo 808. But even then, as someone who's actually a bit of Faulconer apologist, it still sounds better married to the dub soundtrack, as the voices and post-production were done with Faulconer's music in mind. I would say however by the Buu is doesn't sound awful, but I say that's due to Funi's actors settling into their roles and the script rewrites not going toooverboard with inaccuracies.

As Mike mentioned, it really is obvious that the dub and music were kind of meant for each other, and hearing the Funi cast-ESPECIALLY during the Freeza and early Cell arcs-married against Kikuchi's more minimalist compositions or outright silence really highlights how objectively BAD the dub was circa 1999-2000. I've seen bits and pieces of it, and quite frankly it doesn't work. I dunno, I wouldn't say cancel each other out, but at least work together. The bad dub and bad music were made for each other, and somehow. Personally, I find the Z-proper dub alongside the original Japanese score shows just how different it is in delivery and tone compared to something more faithful, a la their dub of Kai.

It was first made available on the orange brick DVD sets (then the Dragon Boxes, then the various Blu-ray sets, and onward from here). With the exception of the first three DBZ movies in 1997-1998, it took FUNimation until 2007 to actively produce and allow their English dub of anything Z-branded to be watched with its original Japanese score.
